Writers in the Forest
I’ve been bursting to share this news for a few weeks now! I’m delighted to say that I’ve been appointed as one of two Writers-in-Residence for the Forestry Commission’s centenary year. As part of my residency, I’ll be spending the summer in the depths of our national forests, unearthing their stories and learning more about woodland conservation.
Yesterday, I was featured in the Guardian by the lovely Patrick Barkham, who interviewed me and my fellow writer Zakiya Mckenzie. I’m so excited to share this opportunity with Zakiya and to see what creative work we each produce!
I’ll be keeping a separate blog for my residency here, which will feature research, observations and updates on my poetry project. My final piece will be an illustrated long-form narrative poem under the working title The Tangled Web.
Thanks to the brilliant Sarah Lee for taking this photo of Pablo and I for the Guardian piece, in between hail showers for that ‘authentic’ outdoorsy look…!
