Bristol Festival of Nature

The Bristol Festival of Nature 2019 includes a special series on nature writing. The organisers have asked 5 different writers to join them at 4 feature events in Bristol to share their work, their upcoming projects, and to help explore the nation’s ongoing love for nature writing.

Come to Bristol for a very special evening featuring two emerging nature writers, supported by Forestry England as part of their centenary residency programme, ‘Writers in the Forest’. Tiffany Francis and Bristol-based Zakiya Mckenzie will share their developing work and join the chair for a discussion on connecting diverse audiences with trees and forests, the continued popularity of nature writing and how to build a writing career in a digital age.

Timber: The International Forest Festival 2019

  • The National Forest Derbyshire (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

I’ll be celebrating foraging wild food and seasonal living at this year’s Timber festival, an incredible weekend festival of debate, celebration and reflection in the National Forest, Derbyshire.

Join new thinkers and gather with artists, musicians and writers, as they respond and react to the forest in bold and exhilarating ways. Activists and makers will invite to you join them in joyous celebration of nature. The rebels and the unexpected from the worlds of music, art, performance and wellbeing will play, provoke and inspire as we change the world. So come on in, unplug, walk into the trees and fall under Timber’s spell. Recharge under the leaves. It’s good for the soul.

Friday 5th July (4-5pm) - Talk: Foraging for Modern Humans

Saturday 6th July (10:30-11:30am) - Demonstration: Wild Summer Plant Cooking

Dark Skies Launch Night

Join me at One Tree Books in Petersfield for the official launch of my new book - Dark Skies!

Dark Skies is a non-fiction piece inspired by a year exploring the landscape at night. I visited Norway to see the Northern Lights, swam in a Finnish archipelago under the Midnight Sun, listened to nightjars in Sussex, sailed down the River Dart at dusk in my own handmade coracle, and learnt all about the night sky.

More information soon, but tickets are FREE and include wine!

Wellbeing by the Lakes

  • Sculpture by the Lakes (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Wellbeing by the Lakes is a three-day festival exploring what it means to be mindful and live well in this fast-paced modern world. A curated blend of expert talks, live performance, meditation, movement sessions, wholesome food and healing therapies.

At the heart of the festival will be the unique opportunity to witness the Tashi Lhunpo monks creating an intricate sand mandala which will be washed away on the final day in the River Frome representing the impermanence of all things and the quality of non-attachment.

Sculpture by the Lakes is nestled in 26 acres of Dorset's glorious countryside near Dorchester, interspersed with monumental sculptures by renowned sculptor Simon Gudgeon, reflective lakes, the fast flowing River Frome, a silver birch wood, landscaped gardens and meandering paths through wild, unspoilt scenery.

I’ll be talking about my new book Dark Skies, and how being awake at night can help us escape the chaos of the modern world and form a deeper connection with nature.
